The Australian Mist cat breed was developed in Australia starting in the 1980s.

The original name for this breed, Spotted Mist, was changed to Australian Mist in 1998 when the marbled (classic tabby) pattern was added to the acceptable patterns for the breed. There was also the desire to reflect its national heritage as the only breed of pedigreed cat to date developed entirely in that country.

Australian Mists are moderate cats, medium boned, with rounded heads and large eyes and ears. The coat is short but resilient, with a plump-furred tail.

The Australian Mist personality is fun-loving, affectionate, and very adaptable to any type of family member, human or otherwise. They get along well with other pets.

As the older name suggests, Australian Mist kittens are delicately spotted and available in a wide range of soft colors. They are fun-loving, but very easygoing and relaxed.

Associations: The Australian Mist breed is accepted for championship status in TICA, the Australian Cat Federation, and in Catz (New Zealand).
