About The British Shorthair The British Shorthair looks like the feline equivalent of a teddy bear: sturdy, plush, and resilient. In addition to the better-known British Shorthair, British Longhairs are accepted by some associations. Instead of a short, plush coat, British Longhairs have a medium-length coat. They come in all range of colors, but the ubiquitous British Blue is the best known.
They are a slow-maturing breed, often not reaching their full size until between 3 and 5 years of age. Brits love being close to (though not necessarily on) their favorite people, but never in a needy or overly demanding way. They tolerate being picked up and carried, but their large frames need to be well-supported.
