About The Chausie Chausies are descended from crosses between the wild Jungle Cat and domestic cats, mostly domestic shorthairs and Abyssinians. Their appearance is reminiscent of a cougar, with its wild ticked coat and graceful, muscular build. Pet Chausies should be at least 4 generations away from their most recent wild parent, as cats more closely related to wild blood can make difficult pets.
Well-bred Chausies are intelligent, athletic cats with a high need for exercise and play, but with a sweet, affectionate nature with its family. It will get along with similarly-sized pets, but is not a good choice in a home with birds or small pets such as hamsters or gerbils. Homes with very young children are also not recommended, as some Chausies may not tolerate rough play. Many Chausies cannot digest wheat gluten, so special diets may be required.
Important: As a hybrid breed, Chausies are illegal to own in some states or municipalities in the USA, as well as issues in Alberta and Saskatchewan. For up to date information about your location, please check
Hybrid Law.
