Description

The Colorpoint Shorthair cat breed has the Siamese personality and body type, differing only in accepted colors. Colorpoint Shorthair kittens appear in red point, cream point, lynx (tabby) point, and tortie point colors.

Like the Siamese, the Colorpoint Shorthair personality is highly interactive, devoted, playful, and fun-loving. They are talkative and interactive, needing companionship for true happiness. For this reason, it's best to keep them with cats of their own activity level or in busy households where they are not left alone for long periods of time.

The Colorpoint Shorthair was recognized in CFA in 1964 to distinguish it from the traditional colors of seal, chocolate, blue, and lilac (solid) point.

Associations: The Colorpoint Shorthair is accepted in all major associations, although in most associations (all except CFA and CCA) it is simply a color class of the Siamese. See also Siamese for information on standards and more links.

Because the Colorpoint Shorthair is only a recognized, separate breed in two North American registries, cat seekers outside North America looking for these cats should look under the Siamese listings instead.
