Description

Don Sphynx are similar to Sphynx cats in looks and type, but originate in Russia. The first Don Sphynx, a female later named Varvara, was found in the city of Rostov-na-Donu in 1987. Rostov-na-Donu is located on the Don River, hence the name "Don Sphynx". Genetically, they are unrelated to the Sphynx breed, which originated in Canada. They are also known as the Don Hairless, Russian Hairless, Donskoy, or Donskoy Sphynx.

Don Sphynx cats are heavier boned than Sphynx. Don Sphynx kittens are currently bred and accepted in all colors and eye colors.

Acceptance: Don Sphynx were accepted in WCF in 1997. They are accepted for registration only under the name Don Hairless in TICA.

Interesting breed fact: Don Sphynx have distinctive paws with curiously elongated toes. Some are adept enough to manipulate objects with them, almost like fingers.
