Description

Donskoy are similar to Sphynx cats in looks and type, but originate in Russia. The first Donskoy, a female later named Varvara, was found in the city of Rostov-na-Donu in 1987. Rostov-na-Donu is located on the Don River, hence the name "Donskoy". Genetically, they are unrelated to the Sphynx breed, which originated in Canada. They are also known as the Don Hairless, Russian Hairless, Don Sphynx.

Donskoy cats are heavier boned than Sphynx. Donskoy kittens are currently bred and accepted in all colors and eye colors. There are four defined coat types: rubber bald, flocked, velour, and brush, although all but the brush are generally hairless.

Acceptance: Donskoy were accepted in WCF in 1997. They are accepted for New Preliminary Breed status in TICA.

Interesting breed fact: Donskoy have distinctive paws with curiously elongated toes. Some are adept enough to manipulate objects with them, almost like fingers.
