About The Oriental The Oriental is a lithe, Siamese-like cat with a long muscular, tubular body, wedge head, and prominent ears. Orientals come in both shorthaired and longhaired varieties. They were bred to be a Siamese-type cat without the color and pattern restrictions of the Siamese breed.

When you come home to an Oriental, you'll be greeted by a lively cat who wants to tell you all about their day. Orientals love to follow their people around and "help" with everything they do. They love riding shoulders, climbing, and being up high; as one Oriental breeder put it, "kiss your curtains goodbye!" Orientals must have pet companions their own activity level, and are best kept in pairs with another cat who can keep up with them. They adore food and may steal treats from cupboards and drawers, so childproof locks may be necessary.

Like all Siamese-style cats, Orientals must be monitored for dental health. Although many Internet sources say otherwise, Orientals are not hypoallergenic.
Did You Know? Orientals are sometimes called "Ornamentals" because of the dizzying array of accepted colors and patterns -- over 600 possibilities!
