About The Turkish Van The Turkish Van cat is a semi-longhaired cat distinguished by its unusual pattern: the cat is white except for a colored tail and color on the head. (This is called the "Van" pattern, and is seen in other breeds as well). They are a sturdy, medium-bodied, muscular cat. Vans also can have blue, gold, or odd-eyes (one of each color).
Turkish Vans are affectionate and tend to bond most strongly to one or two people in the family. They are affectionate but can be independent, which does not mean they can or should be left alone for long periods. They are trainable, but prefer to teach you; the best training occurs when they think it was their idea.
Did You Know? It's no exaggeration: Turkish Vans really are "swimming cats" who are totally fascinated with water. They will play in (and sometimes empty) their water dishes, drown toys and other small objects, turn on faucets, play in uncovered toilets and jump in the shower or bath with you. Get them used the blow-dryer early, or get used to having a wet cat running around the house!
